Chernomorets is located 24 km south-east of Bourgas on the southern coast of the large bay of Burgas. The city has an excellent location on a secluded hillside along a small horseshoe-shaped bay near the sea. The ancient Greeks, who lived thousands of years ago on these lands, gave the name of the first settlement on these lands to Agios Nicholas or St. Nicholas. In 1951 the town was renamed Chernomorets.
At present Chernomorets has formed as a small tourist town, developing mainly summer tourism. The town is home to about 2,500 people, in summer the population is increasing to more than 10,000 people.
The central part of the town offers accommodation in mostly small 4-5-storey hotels and private rooms. Near the town is the Gradina campsite, where several modern residential complexes are built, offering all modern leisure facilities.
