Burgas is an attractive center for Bulgarians to live in, overtaking Plovdiv and Varna. In 2023, 15,913 people chose to live and work in the seaside city. The city's population growth shows that it has increased by 7,849 citizens. This is clear from the statistics in the NSI report on internal migration in the country in 2023. The seaside city is in second place in the ranking, while Sofia is traditionally in first place.
Plovdiv remains in third place among the preferences of internal migrants. 14,976 people chose to move under the hills, 9,856 left, but the population grew by 5,120 in the end.
Varna is in fourth place in terms of population growth with 12,651 new arrivals to live near our northern sea coast. Another 7,300 left the sea capital, and the increase was 5,351 new residents of Varna.
The usual reasons for emigration and settlement are work, education or moving because of parents.
A total of 107,836 people in the country changed their place of residence last year, but migrated within the country. A total of 75,916 citizens left the cities and moved to another place, and 31,920 people left the villages.
A total of 47,196 people chose village life in 2023, 10,238 of them came from other villages, but most - 36,958 - moved from the city.
