Archaeological researches around the ancient city of Nessebar

Archaeological researchs and excavations of ancient sites in the town of Nessebar and in its region continue. Only for the period at the end of 2020. and March 2021 employees of the Museum "Ancient Nessebar" and a team of departments "Archeology" and "Natural Sciences" of the New Bulgarian University conducted a number of field studies in the Municipality of Nessebar, which led to the discovery and registration of 102 new archaeological sites - settlements, fortresses and a defensive wall.

During the works, complexes and artefacts from different epochs dating from late prehistory to the Bulgarian Renaissance were discovered, the most interesting being those from the time between the Late Iron Age and the end of antiquity. Objects such as clays, sands, construction and household ceramics, tools and weapons were found. All subjects are examined with special technical means allowing the exact determination of the epoch to which they belong.

All these studies help to complement the permanent historical exposition in the Archaeological Museum of Nessebar "Ancient Nessebar", which we recommend to be visited by anyone interested in the historical development of the town from antiquity to the present day.
