13 municipalities of the Burgas region are uniting and will participate in financing the creation of a fund to stimulate year-round flights to and from Burgas Airport.
The initiators of the meeting were the mayors of the cities of Burgas and Pomorie, Dimitar Nikolov and Ivan Alexiev. At Alexiev’s proposal, negotiations with airlines will be carried out by municipalities together with Fraport (the airport tenant company). There will be conversations with the Ministry of Tourism and Transport about the state's participation in the commonwealth and in the fund.
Funds from the fund will be used to further finance flights outside the active summer season. Negotiations are already underway with the Bulgarian airline Guliair to provide regular daily flights (twice a day) Burgas - Sofia, Sofia - Burgas, as well as flights Burgas - Istanbul, Istanbul - Burgas. There will be meetings with Turkish airlines on the topic, as this will provide an opportunity for direct connections with the whole world.
In addition to extending the season, the year-round operation of the airport will help the development of the Southeast region and will be useful to all students and workers abroad, as well as to everyone who develops business outside of Bulgaria.
